Creation of a thick skin to hide one’s true self.
Initial psychological investigation into my own interiority unveiled an alter ego that emerges in time of despair and led to an architectural manifestation of my interiority. Translating the idea of a thick skin into an architectural form, a rigid tessellated space frame system was developed as the structural barrier between positive and negative emotions, entrapping my real feelings beneath the confines of this structure.
A thin membrane system was established above the structure that allowed imprints to remain as people migrated off the desired path. The path symbolizes my own perceived notions of how a situation should progress, and the thin membrane being the uncontrollable reality that could potential lead to despair. As the wear of the membrane thinned due to constant negative emotions, it started to reveal the structure hidden below. This investigation into an architectural interiority was used as self therapy to understand one true identity.
